Gap fraction measurements

Gap fraction is the chance of not hitting a leaf when casting a ray through a vegetation canopy. Gap fraction measurement is a way to analyse the structure of a vegetation canopy, often parameterized with the leaf area index (LAI) and the leaf angle distribution. These parameters are valuable indicators for the state of the vegetation.

In this project, it is sought to estimate the structure of cereal row crop canopies by measuring gap fraction with down-looking sensors. Optical imaging systems as well as laser range equipment are used.
