Minimodule 10 in 3D Computer Graphics

Page last modified

Time and place

Lecture: None (use lecture time for reading papers)
Exercises: prior to lecture in group rooms

Topics

Natural phenomena

"Natural phenomena" in rendering refers to techniques that are developed to facilitate visualization of some kind of, well, natural phenomenon. This can for example be rain and snow. Natural phenomena techniques are a delightful mix of hacks and models of physical behaviours.

In place of the normal lecture each group should select a paper from the list below. Organize the selection such that all papers are allocated to some group.

Literature

Four papers dealing with some kind of natural phenomenon are linked below. These are just the papers. For some of the works there may be illustrative videos on the web. Go and find what you can, you can also include other related work in your presentation. Discuss pros and cons, discuss the methods in relationship to interactive games. Use your imagination :-)

Paul Fearing
"Computer Modelling of Fallen Snow"

Xiaoming Wei et al.
"Simulating Fire with Texture Splats"

Niniane Wang
"Realistic and Fast Cloud Rendering"

Martin Langer
"A Spectral-Particle Hybrid Method for Rendering Falling Snow"

Exercises

Read your paper and start preparing a presentation of it ....
